EU-Africa Business Forum 2022: Building Stronger Value Chains for Sustainable Growth and Decent Jobs
The 7th EU-Africa Business Forum (EABF22) took place hybrid format from 14 until 18 February 2022. Co-organised by the European Commission, the African Union Commission, as well as EU and African business organisations and key institutions, the EU-Africa Business Forum 2022 brought together business and political leaders from both continents to increase opportunities for sustainable economic partnerships. Over 15,000 participants attended the 30 high-level panels and over 200 online events were organized in order to build networks across the continents.
As a key player of the region, BUSINESSMED took an active role during this event and organized two events online with the organisation's strategy to support triangular cooperation.
The first event took place on the 14th of February and focused on how to achieve smart regional integration by supporting trade in the area and creating new efficient, sustainable and gender-sensitive value chains between Africa, the Mediterranean and Europe. The webinar highlighted how building value chains within Africa is a key issue, not only for business but also to support Africa’s sustainable development and improve the living conditions of its citizens.
The second event was organized in association with the Steering Group of Civil Society Organizations and Local Authorities of the Africa-Europe Partnership Week and was dedicated to the informal sector in Africa, exacerbated by the lack of decent jobs in sufficient availability. The various experts presented their analysis of the current situation of this economy and the ways to use it and transform it into a proper opportunity for boosting entrepreneurship in agriculture, green and blue economy and digitalization to mention only these fields.
Panellists called for more strategic cooperation between Europe and Africa to address trade and economic imbalances between the two continents. Private sector representatives mentioned that this transition requires the development of clear legal and institutional frameworks adapted to each country, with strong policies, especially for women, implemented in consultation with all social partners. They also highlighted the importance of a fair and equal relationship and that should be built on common goals and aspirations that will lead to a win-win relationship for both regions. The event offered an opportunity for BUSINESSMED to network and interact with African and European business leaders and decision-makers.
